Role Overview
The Electrical Business Development Manager is a key strategic role focused on driving growth across the electrical engineering and hard services sectors. Combining technical expertise with commercial insight, this position is responsible for identifying and securing new business opportunities, nurturing client relationships, and delivering tailored electrical solutions that align with business objectives. The successful candidate will work cross-functionally with technical, operational, and commercial teams to ensure project feasibility, profitability, and customer satisfaction. With a strong grasp of market dynamics and a proactive mindset, the role serves as the bridge between engineering innovation and business expansion.
Core Responsibilities
Develop and implement a strategic business development plan focused on electrical and hard services project growth.
Identify, pursue, and convert new opportunities through targeted market research, networking, and outreach.
Build and maintain long-term relationships with clients, consultants, contractors, and key decision-makers.
Manage and lead the full tender and bidding process, working closely with the Bid Manager to deliver high-quality submissions.
Collaborate with internal stakeholders—including engineering, operations, and finance—to ensure alignment on project delivery and margin expectations.
Conduct ongoing market analysis to identify industry trends, competitive threats, and new areas for development.
Negotiate commercial terms and contracts, ensuring alignment with business policies and profitability targets.
Maintain an accurate and growing pipeline, meeting and exceeding individual and departmental sales targets.
Provide regular reporting, forecasting, and performance updates to the Commercial Director.
Key Requirements
Demonstrable experience in business development, sales, or key account management within electrical, hard services, MEP, or facilities management sectors.
Strong technical understanding of electrical projects across commercial, industrial, and/or public sector environments.
Proven ability to manage the complete sales cycle from lead to successful contract award.
Excellent interpersonal, negotiation, and communication skills, with the ability to influence at all levels.
Strong commercial acumen, with a keen ability to identify profitable opportunities and mitigate project risks.
Competent in the use of CRM software (ideally Simpro), Microsoft Office, and sales reporting tools.
Relevant qualification or degree in electrical engineering, facilities management, business, or a related field ( but not essential).
Full UK driving licence.
Business Expectations
Meet or exceed key performance indicators (KPIs) as set by the Commercial Director.
Submit monthly pipeline activity reports, including wins, prospects, and forecasts.
Represent the business in a professional manner at all times, utilising approved brand and marketing materials.
Adhere to brand guidelines and demonstrate consistent messaging across all client-facing activity.
Champion a commercially focused approach, maintaining a balance of technical accuracy and business viability.
Act as a collaborative contributor within the wider business development function, sharing insights and supporting collective goals
