XCL Group are looking for a motivated and knowledgeable Senior / Experienced Ecologist to join our growing environmental consultancy client based in Stroud.
This role is ideal for an ecologist with solid consultancy experience who is confident leading projects, managing client relationships, and producing high-quality ecological reports and assessments. Working as part of a supportive and collaborative team, you’ll enjoy the flexibility of hybrid working while contributing to a wide variety of development and conservation projects across the UK.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead and deliver ecological projects from initial survey through to reporting and client liaison.
* Prepare and review Preliminary Ecological Appraisals (PEA), Ecological Impact Assessments (EcIA), and Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) assessments.
* Advise clients and project teams on ecological constraints, mitigation, and enhancement opportunities.
* Supervise and mentor junior ecologists to maintain quality and consistency across deliverables.
* Oversee and contribute to protected species surveys (e.g., bats, GCN, reptiles, badgers).
* Support habitat design, management, and monitoring plans.
* Maintain strong working relationships with clients and assist with business development.
Job Requirements
* Degree (or equivalent) in Ecology, Environmental Science, or related discipline.
* Proven experience working within an environmental or ecological consultancy.
* Strong project management and client communication skills.
* Confident producing and leading technical ecological reports.
* Sound knowledge of UK wildlife legislation, planning policy, and ecological best practice.
* Membership (or eligibility) of CIEEM.
* Protected species licences and survey experience desirable.
* Full UK driving licence and flexibility to travel for site work.
Working Hours:
Our client offers Flexible working hours based on 37.5 hours per week and this would be a hybrid role.
