A leading UK multi-disciplinary construction consultancy is looking to appoint a Director / Technical Director – Structural Engineering to lead an existing team of engineers, based in Hampshire.

This is a senior leadership role with a big platform, real autonomy, and a genuine seat at the table in a business known for award-winning work, technical excellence, and a collaborative, people-focused culture.

The opportunity

You will take full responsibility for the Structural Engineering discipline across the South, setting technical standards, shaping strategy, and driving growth.

What you will do

  • Lead a talented team delivering complex building structures across residential, education, healthcare, commercial and heritage
  • Steer both project delivery and business development, maximising existing relationships and winning new work
  • Play a visible role with clients and stakeholders, representing the consultancy at a senior level

Responsibilities

  • Set the technical strategy, standards and QA for Structural Engineering in the region
  • Lead delivery from concept to completion on complex projects
  • Win work, deepen key accounts, and drive commercial performance (including P&L)
  • Build, mentor, and scale a high-performing structural engineering team
  • Represent the business at key client and stakeholder meetings
  • Contribute to strategic planning and the long-term direction of the discipline

Must-haves (please read before applying)

  • A Chartered Structural Engineer (CEng MIStructE, or CEng MICE with a structural focus)
  • Experienced in UK buildings consultancy, leading complex structural engineering projects
  • Comfortable owning P&L / commercials and shaping strategy
  • Proven in team leadership, client development and project delivery
  • Confident operating at senior level, with strong communication and stakeholder skills

Applicants who are not Chartered and do not have UK buildings consultancy experience will not be considered.

Nice to have

  • Experience working on heritage projects
  • Established regional network and a track record of winning work
  • Currently operating at Director level, or a Senior Associate / Associate Director ready to step up
  • Shape and lead the Structural Engineering discipline in the South with national backing
