Job Description
Our client is a specialist engineering and construction contractor operating across the UK water industry, partnering with major water companies to deliver complex infrastructure solutions. Due to continued growth and company expansion, they are recruiting a Design Manager. This is a permanent position with a salary guide up to £80k and will be managing designers and design delivery across multi-disciplinary teams and lead delivery of water industry designs ensuring time and quality expectations.
This role will be based in our clients’ offices in Manchester, with the opportunity for hybrid working for a strong candidate.\n\nThis Desing Manager role be responsible for:\n\n * Manage, mentor, and develop engineers, CAD technicians, and graduates, while fostering a positive team culture and supporting the growth of the design function.\n\n * Lead multidisciplinary design processes on water industry projects, ensuring collaboration, coordination, and high-quality integrated outputs.\n\n * Ensure delivery of design packages that meet safety, quality, timescale, and budget requirements, with all project changes accurately recorded.\n\n * Promote and enforce the use of appropriate standards, best practices, formal procedures, and modern software tools across the team.\n\n * Drive continuous improvement by shaping processes, supporting design hour estimation, and encouraging adoption of BIM and 3D modelling technologies.\n\nWhat we’re looking for:\n\n * Significant engineering experience in a regulated industry at Principal or Managerial level (water, rail, nuclear, highways, oil & gas)\n\n * A proven track record managing multidisciplinary design teams and projects.\n\n * Chartered Engineer (CEng) or working towards Chartership.\n\nThis is a growing engineering consultancy with excellent opportunities for career development, that are offering competitive salaries, a combined pension of 9%, Professional Membership & Chartership mentoring and support for engineers working towards professional accreditation, regular engagement, and appraisals to support with your career progression and continuing professional development opportunities with industry specialists.\n\nHines Consulting is managing all applications for this Design Manager vacancy, and we would love to hear from you if you meet the required criteria.
