Job Description

Design Manager \n\nThe Design Manager will lead a specialist technical design team delivering engineering projects, acting as the technical authority within their discipline. The role involves managing client interfaces, commercial and contractual matters, and ensuring the timely delivery of high-quality design outputs. The Design Manager will oversee budgets, manage risks, and develop team capability to meet business objectives.\n\nKey Responsibilities\n\nAct as the primary client interface and support project and business development opportunities.\n\nLead and manage the design team to deliver quality outputs on time and to agreed standards.\n\nEnsure effective design assurance, reviews, and final technical approvals.\n\nOversee design risk, health and safety compliance, and CDM Regulations 2015 requirements.\n\nEnsure designs are fit for construction and operation, including risk and hazard assessments.\n\nManage contracts, budgets, resources, and project performance against financial targets.\n\nSupport bids, tenders, and team growth initiatives.\n\nContribute to continuous improvement of systems, processes, and quality standards.\n\nRequirements\n\nDegree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline.\n\nChartered Engineer (ICE, IStructE, or equivalent).\n\n10+ years' UK-based experience in consultancy or contracting.\n\nStrong knowledge of the UK Energy sector and DNO experience.\n\nProven multi-disciplinary project and commercial management experience.\n\nKnowledge of CDM Regulations 2015 and UK health and safety requirements.\n\nProficiency in Autodesk software and MS365.\n\nExcellent communication and stakeholder management skills.\n\nFull UK driving licence.\n\nersg are an equal opportunities employer; we are committed to promoting equality of opportunity for all job applicants.
