Design Engineer

Our clients have an exciting opportunity for a Design Engineer to join their growing team, close to Winchester.
They are seeking a creative and dynamic engineering professional with imaginative design skills to work as part of a team of Design Engineers.
Responsibilities:
* Working with electromechanical products, the successful candidate will be responsible for creating new & adapting existing products to customer specifications.
* You will be required to complete all aspects of the product design phase including concept design, detail design, detail drawings, design reviews (internal and with the customer), FMEA’s and all other steps to ensure a design project can be introduced into production.
* Good analytical skills (FEA, capability studies, mathematical simulation etc) would be an advantage.
* Experience in working to tight, customer driven timescales is essential, usually to an agreed Project Timing Plan, therefore basic project management skills are essential.
* As part of our client’s project management process, they utilise an APQP based system, and it will therefore be your responsibility to ensure that any Engineering related items within the APQP process are suitably covered.
* Able to produce Production related documentation such as Work Instructions, Wiring Specifications and Test Specifications as well as Test Reports.
* Suggest process developments to improve existing products and to manufacture in a more cost-effective manner.
* “Hands on” and practical individual, ideally capable of utilising in-house equipment and machinery to manufacture components as required.
* You will be required to work closely with our Purchasing, Production, Production Engineering and Quality Departments as well as direct with suppliers, therefore good communication skills are essential.
* There may also be a requirement to design and manufacture of assembly aids, assembly fixtures, test fixtures etc.
* You will be required to compile costings from a customer’s concept using standard Microsoft Excel based cost models to ensure a quick response to the Product Management Team.
* You will be required to track the costs for a project updating as required during the development of a design for the life of the project.
* You will also be expected to provide technical support to Product Management and Sales Teams, possibly including customer meetings and visits.
Required skills & experience:
* Experience using Solidworks
* Design Lifecycle – from concept to completion
* Experience using AutoCAD or Corel Draw
Working hours:
7:30 to 16:45 Monday – Thursday
7:30 to 12:00 on Friday
