An exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic nurse has come to join our dedicated dermatology nursing team in a 12-month maternity cover role. This is a full time position, offering an exciting opportunity for a nurse who is passionate about delivering high-quality, specialist care to patients with a variety of skin conditions.

In this role, you will be responsible for independently managing and delivering phototherapy, patch testing and responding to patient inquiries via the dermatology helpline. The post also includes essential administrative responsibilities to support the effective operation of the department.

We are looking for a candidate with proven nursing experience, strong clinical skills, and the ability to thrive in a dynamic, patient-centred environment.

Main duties of the job

  • Phototherapy Clinic: Administer phototherapy treatments (narrowband UVB, PUVA) to patients with conditions such as psoriasis and eczema, while monitoring their response and ensuring safety protocols are followed.
  • Patch Testing Clinic: Perform patch testing application and removal ensuring appropriate follow-up and patient education.
  • Dermatology Helpline: Provide support and advice to patients via phone, addressing medication concerns, treatment plans, and follow-up queries.
  • Administrative Duties: Schedule patient appointments, maintain accurate records, and assist with departmental audits and reporting as needed.

  • BSc (Hons) degree

Desirable criteria

  • Recognised Dermatology course or study days
  • Recognised Phototherapy and Photochemotherapy course

  • To work in other areas of the department and off site when required
  • Able to work flexible shifts

Experience

Essential criteria

  • Some post qualification experience
  • Previous acute hospital experience

Desirable criteria

  • Previous experience managing patients with chronic skin conditions

Skills & Knowledge

Essential criteria

  • Effective communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Good interpersonal skills with the ability to manage difficult / stressful situations
  • Able to train and supervise junior staff
  • Ability to manage change within the working environment

Desirable criteria

  • Patch testing competency
  • Photo Dynamic therapy competency
