Deputy Shop Manager (Brixham)
New Today
Hours: 22.5 hours per week (to include alternate Saturdays and some Sundays and Bank Holidays in the summer season)
Department: Retail
Closing Date: 03/05/2026
Are you an energetic, organised people‑person with a passion for retail and animal welfare? We’re looking for a committed Deputy Shop Manager to support the smooth and successful running of our much‑loved RSPCA Little Valley charity shop in Brixham.
This is your chance to play a key role in raising essential funds for Little Valley Animal Shelter, which costs over £1 million a year to run. Every item sold directly supports the rescue, care and rehoming of animals in need – and you’ll be at the heart of making that happen.
What you’ll be doing
As Deputy Shop Manager, you’ll work closely with the Shop Manager and be trained in all aspects of charity retail. Your responsibilities will include:
Driving sales, meeting targets and helping maximise profits
Leading, motivating and supporting a dedicated team of volunteers
Ensuring excellent customer service and a welcoming shop environment
Managing stock generation, rotation, pricing and presentation
Maintaining high standards of merchandising, window displays and housekeeping
Opening and closing the shop as a keyholder
Ensuring compliance with Health & Safety, trading standards and charity retail policy
Stepping in to cover the Shop Manager during holidays or sickness
Every day is varied, hands‑on and rewarding – perfect for someone who thrives in a busy, people‑focused environment.
What we’re looking for
We’d love to hear from you if you are:
Able to use your own initiative and confidently solve problems
A great communicator with strong organisational skills
Customer‑focused, friendly and approachable
Computer literate and comfortable with till and cash handling procedures
Flexible, adaptable and willing to learn
A team player who enjoys working with people from all backgrounds
Passionate about animal welfare and the aims of the RSPCA
Retail or charity shop experience is a bonus, but not essential as we provide full training.
Why you’ll love working with us
We take care of our people. Benefits include:
Generous annual leave (pro‑rata), increasing with length of service
An extra day off for your birthday
Access to training and development
Little Valley uniform
Occupational Sick Pay (after probation)
Health Assured wellbeing programme
Discounts with PetPlan pet insurance
