Deputy School Business Manager - Cambridge

Location: Cambridge

Duration: 3-6 months

Rate: £15.65 to £17.30 per hour

Role Summary

We are seeking an experienced and adaptable school business professional to join our senior administrative team on a temporary basis. The successful candidate will provide immediate operational support to the School Business Manager, ensuring that the school's financial, HR, and premises functions remain compliant and efficient during this interim period.

Immediate Priorities & Responsibilities1. Financial Continuity

• Maintain the school's financial records using SIMS FMS or Access Education, ensuring all transactions are coded correctly.
• Process monthly payroll variations and ensure timely payment of suppliers.
• Monitor departmental spends and alert the SBM to any significant variances in the budget.

2. Compliance & Safeguarding

• Take immediate ownership of the Single Central Record (SCR), ensuring all temporary staff, contractors, and volunteers are vetted according to Keeping Children Safe in Education (KCSIE) guidelines.
• Ensure Health & Safety logs are up to date and that any immediate site risks are mitigated.

3. Operational Support

• Manage the day-to-day workload of the school office and premises team.
• Support the SBM with any "in-flight" projects, such as end-of-year accounts or external audits.
• Act as the point of contact for external contractors currently working on-site.

Because this is a temporary appointment, we are prioritising candidates who possess:

• System Familiarity: Immediate proficiency in school-specific software (e.g., SIMS, Arbor, FMS, or Orovia) is essential.
• Adaptability: The ability to walk into a fast-paced school office and establish rapport with teaching staff and parents quickly.
• Clearance: An enhanced DBS check registered with the Update Service is highly preferred for an immediate start.
