Deputy Head: Co-curriculum, Partnerships and Admissions

New Today

Required: April or September 2026

Emanuel School is seeking an exceptional Deputy Head to join its Senior Management Team and play a pivotal role in the strategic leadership of admissions and marketing, the co-curricular programme, and partnerships and outreach. While it is envisaged that these areas of oversight would be central to the brief, the precise scope of the role will be shaped to the successful candidate’s strengths.

The Deputy Head will ensure Emanuel’s admissions programme remains one of the largest and most competitive in London; that our co-curricular provision is extensive and ambitious, and our partnerships and outreach programme is rooted in the school’s values of aspiration, connection and empathy.

The postholder will also contribute to the broader leadership of the school and, when required, deputise for the Headmaster, and ensure the smooth day‑to‑day running of the school, maintaining good order and a positive atmosphere alongside other members of the Senior Management Team.

The successful candidate will have significant experience of leadership in an academic, pastoral or co‑curricular area of school life and experience of working with a Senior Management Team.

Successful experience in a leadership capacity in a secondary school (e.g. as head of department, head of year, head of house or head of section) is essential, as is a track record in school improvement and raising standards to the highest level.

Outstanding oral and written communication skills and confidence as a public speaker are equally important.

Working at Emanuel

There is always a buzz at Emanuel. Colleagues enjoy their work and, like the pupils, are ambitious for the school. With a weekly staff briefing, half‑termly staff meetings, termly consultative group meetings and a common‑room committee, all of us are engaged in a lively ongoing dialogue about the school’s aims and aspirations.

Everyone works hard here, and anyone joining us should expect to do the same and share our commitment to the highest standards. At the same time our ethos remains unpretentious, kindly and practical, and there’s a strong sense of community and friendship at the school.

We aim to look after our staff well: we have an appraisal scheme with a focus on employees’ professional development; we sponsor postgraduate courses and a range of training opportunities; we offer salary‑sacrifice childcare vouchers through TEDS Premier, we offer a healthcare plan via Simply Health that includes counselling and medical support; and we’re committed to supporting staff wellbeing. Financially, all staff benefit from good pension provision and free lunches.
