Job Purpose
The Deck Supervisor is responsible for undertaking all deck activities safely and efficiently in coordination with the Offshore Construction Supervisor. This position is for the Deep Blue (pipelay) vessel within our fleet.
To supervise all deck operations in a safe manner following the Company Quality Health Safety & Environment (QHS&E) policy To brief the deck crew on the work scope and to ensure that they are fully aware of any safety precautions to be observed Overall control of all lifting operations and to ensure lift plans are in place and have been reviewed as necessary To ensure that clear, unambiguous directions are given to the Crane Operator when moving loads around the vessel Ensure that, during extensive lifting operations, the work is planned such that the crane operator(s) are adequately rested and are able to have regular comfort and meal breaks To ensure that project rigging is coded To ensure that any rigging suspected of being defective is quarantined To ensure the worksite is maintained in a clean and tidy manner with good housekeeping a priority To liaise with the Project Engineer to ensure that all project materials have been loaded prior to sailing To ensure that all loose items are thoroughly secured prior to going to sea Assist with anchor, winch, wire and rope running during berthing as directed by the Captain
Additional duties
Pipelay
To transfer the product from storage location (main reels or carousels) to working/installation location To spool the pipe in a safe and orderly manner Instruct the Dynamic Positioning (DP) Operators on vessel movements, speeds and power settings along the pipe route where applicable Liaise with pipelay Operators during pipelay operations To control pipelay tension during lay with guidance from the Senior Offshore Construction Supervisor Instruct the Reel Operators on speed with guidance from the Senior Offshore Construction Supervisor Control all spooling and loading operations and act as a single point of contact with the storage base Foreman. Control the simultaneous operations between storage base and vessel
General activities:
Knowledge of logistical requirements and proactive involvement with project/vessel de-mobilisation and mobilisations Proactive involvement with development and production of work / dive plans Collating and organising relevant information that the team may require to undertake the task in hand Ensure that the plant and equipment being used meets all regulatory requirements
Typical background and experience required:
Must have:
OPITO accredited Rigging Supervisory/advanced certification or equivalent OPITO accredited Rigging and Lifting certification or equivalent OPITO accredited Banksman Slinger certification or equivalent Valid offshore European survival certificate Valid offshore medical certificate
Nice to have:
Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations (LOLER) Lifting gear examiner Wire rope socketing Manual handling Working at height
