Hands-on Data Engineering Manager – Urgent Contract Role
We have an urgent hands-on Data Engineering Manager contract opportunity to join a client undergoing a major data platform transformation. We are looking for someone who can lead a small team while remaining technically involved and a Databricks SME.
You must be available within the next 2-3 weeks and open to travelling to London occasionally.
Key Responsibilities
- Providing day‑to‑day technical leadership and mentoring to a small team of data engineers
- Designing, building and optimising data pipelines on Databricks
- Supporting the ongoing migration from Synapse to Databricks
- Improving engineering standards, delivery practices and team capability
- Working closely with stakeholders to shape technical direction and own solutions end‑to‑end
Ideal Candidate
- Experience with Unity Catalog, DLT, and ADF
- Solid engineering background across Azure, SQL, Python and Spark
- Experience leading/mentoring engineers or taking technical ownership of a small team
- Background in data migrations or modernisation programmes
- Someone comfortable being both hands‑on and guiding others
