Cover Supervisor – Pupil Referral Unit (PRU)

Oldham | Full-Time | Start: Monday 19th January or ASAP

Are you calm under pressure, resilient, and passionate about making a real difference to young people who need it most? We are seeking a dedicated and confident Cover Supervisor to join a Pupil Referral Unit (PRU) in Oldham on a full-time basis.

This is a rewarding and challenging role supporting pupils with severe behavioural, emotional, and social difficulties, many of whom require strong structure, consistency, and positive role modelling to re-engage with education.

The Role:

As a Cover Supervisor, you will be responsible for supervising classes during teacher absence, delivering pre-planned work, and maintaining a safe and structured learning environment. You will play a key role in supporting pupils’ behaviour, de-escalating challenging situations, and building positive relationships that help students succeed.

Key Responsibilities:

Supervise pupils and deliver pre-set lessons

*

Manage and respond confidently to challenging behaviour

*

Build positive, trusting relationships with pupils

*

Support pupils with emotional and behavioural needs

*

Maintain a safe, calm, and structured learning environment

*

Follow safeguarding, behaviour, and PRU policies at all times

Requirements:

*

Experience working with challenging behaviour, PRUs, SEND, SEMH, youth work, or similar settings (essential)

*

Strong behaviour management and de-escalation skills

*

A resilient, patient, and empathetic approach

*

Ability to remain calm and professional in high-pressure situations

*

Commitment to safeguarding and pupil wellbeing
