We are seeking an experienced Cost Control Lead to take ownership of cost management across complex defence programmes.This is a key leadership role, responsible for driving robust cost control, forecasting, and financial assurance in a highly regulated environment.You will work closely with programme, commercial, engineering, and delivery teams to ensure costs are fully understood, controlled, and aligned to contractual and strategic objectives. The role is located in the Derby area and will involve travelling and being on-site several days a week.

Responsibilities

• Lead cost control activities across one or more defence programmes or portfolios.
• Develop and maintain costbaselines, budgets, forecasts, and variance analysis.
• Provide clear, accurate cost reporting to senior stakeholders and customers.
• Challenge assumptions and identify cost risks, opportunities, and efficiencies.
• Support business cases, bids, and investment decisions with robust cost data.
• Ensure compliance with defence, government, and internal financial controls.
• Mentor and develop cost control and project finance professionals.

Qualifications and Experience

• Significant experience in cost control, project controls, or programme finance.
• Background in Defence, Aerospace, Engineering, or other complex delivery environments.
• Strong understanding of EVM, forecasting, and cost risk management.
• Ability to influence senior stakeholders and challenge constructively.
• Excellent analytical, reporting, and communication skills.
• Experience working with MOD or government customers (desirable).

Additional Requirements

• Security clearance will be required for this position.
• The role will involve working on-site with clients several days per week.
