Job Summary

The highly regarded and forward‑thinking radiology department at Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a radiologist with a specialist interest in oncological/haematological imaging, ideally with a secondary interest in head and neck imaging. The role will support the hematological malignancy service with cross‑sectional imaging and whole body MRI, as well as whole body MRI for breast and prostate cancer patients. Head and neck imaging skills would also be helpful to provide further support to this service.

The role also involves a share of the general workload in the department, with general cross‑sectional and ultrasound imaging, taking part in the acute rota and consultant‑led on call at either Basingstoke or Winchester.

Main Duties

  • Support the oncology and haematology imaging at HHFT, in particular with whole body MRI.
  • Support the ENT service, particularly with head and neck ultrasound and FNAs.
  • Support the general rota with both acute and outpatient reporting, including supporting the on‑call rota.
  • Flexible working is available; personalised job plans are negotiable.

Responsibilities

Reporting whole body MRI and other imaging modalities, covering the acute rota, on‑call duties and outpatient reporting across Basingstoke, Winchester and potentially other sites. The post is funded for up to 10 PA incorporating up to 8.5 sessions of DCC (including approximately 0.9 PA on call) and 1.5 sessions of SPA.

Qualifications and Experience

Essential

  • FRCR (or equivalent)
  • Holder of Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) or within six months of CCT date at interview
  • GMC registration with licence to practice
  • Solid background in general radiology and experience reporting plain films, ultrasound, CT and MRI
  • Independent whole body MRI reporting
  • Head and neck subspecialty reporting
  • Ability to supervise, cover and report on examinations carried out by radiographers and specialist registrars
  • Experience in conducting clinico‑radiological meetings or MDTs
  • Willingness to use voice recognition systems and good IT/typing skills
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills; ability to work under pressure and prioritise
  • Willingness to participate in teaching and running the department

Desirable

  • Higher qualification (MRCP or FRCS)
  • Relevant UK NHS experience
  • Fellowship training in a subspecialty area
  • Ability to cross‑cover for colleagues at MDTs
  • Experience in teaching, peer review publications
  • Formal leadership or management training
