Applications are invited for a Consultant Paediatrician; we are looking for a dynamic and motivated Paediatrician to join our friendly and enthusiastic team at the James Paget University Hospital. The post requires experience in Acute Paediatrics and Neonates with a special interest in Respiratory Medicine/Allergy. This is a Substantive appointment.
The appointee will be expected to hold CCT in General Paediatrics or be within 6 months of attaining it.
FTE 10 PA's; DCC 8.5 + SPA 1.5.
1: 11 Hot/ward weeks and 1:11 week of SCBU cover (clinics will be cancelled during these weeks), 2.5 outpatient clinics weekly.
While on call you will be covering the children's ward and a level 1 NICU; this post involves 1:11 on call (resident until 22:00 hrs and then non‑resident).

Main duties of the job
Share with consultant colleagues the Acute Paediatric workload.
Provide with the other consultants a mutual out of hours cover for annual, study and professional leave. Out of hours responsibilities would be 1 in 11 weeknights on call and weekend responsibilities are also 1 in 11.
Provision with Consultant colleagues of a service to the James Paget University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, with responsibility for the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of illness and the proper functioning of the department.
Professional supervision and management of junior medical staff. Responsibilities for carrying out teaching, examination and accreditation duties as required and for contributing to undergraduate, postgraduate and continuing medical education activity, locally and nationally;
Participating in medical audit, the Trust's Clinical Governance processes and in CPD; involvement in research.
Managerial, including budgetary, responsibilities where appropriate.
Where it is agreed between the parties, work on behalf of James Paget University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust or services provided by the Trust for other agencies, e.g. ICB.

Job responsibilities
Subject to the provisions of the Terms and Conditions of Service to observe the Trust's agreed policies and procedures drawn up in consultation with the profession on clinical matters and to follow the standing orders and financial instructions of the Trust.

Person Specification
Education and Qualifications
MBBS or Basic Medical Degree
MRCPCH, MRCP or equivalent
CCT and/or inclusion on the Specialist Register of GMC or within 6 months of completion of training at the date of interview.
Full GMC Registration
Experience & Knowledge
Ability to provide expert clinical opinion across a wide range of problems within the specialty of Acute and Community Paediatrics
Neonatal experience - six months as SpR in Year 3,4,5 or equivalent
Ability to organise and prioritise work effectively
Able to plan and develop the service
Willingness to participate in and lead a multidisciplinary team, balancing departmental and personal objectives
6-12 months experience/training in Respiratory/Allergy or allied specialties (PICU/NICU)
Experience of committee work/project management
Academic Achievements
Ability to use research outcomes in clinical practice
Experience of conducting clinical audit
Knowledge of using evidence base to support decision making
Involvement in research projects and published papers
Key Skills
Ability to communicate clearly with colleagues, laboratory staff, and other staff and agencies
Evidence of teaching experience/aptitude especially multidisciplinary groups.
Experience in teaching junior medical staff
Commitment to continuing professional development
Experience of teaching medical students
Formal training in teaching skills
