What you will do:

- Diagnose and treat a wide spectrum of clinical problems, from acutely ill young patients to elderly patients with multiple complex co-morbidities.

- Look after patients who do not fit into a specific medical speciality or have complex medical issues involving multiple symptoms and co-morbidities.

- Provide continued care in both inpatient and outpatient settings for this patient group.

- Direct treatment and coordinate specialist care as needed.

- Work within a ward-based multidisciplinary team to deliver high-quality inpatient care.

- Supervise clinical fellows, including those working towards CESR in General Internal Medicine.

- Develop alternative educational roles, such as educational supervision of Foundation trainees or serving as a Royal College Tutor for Medicine.

- Participate in the weekend general medical on-call rota on a 1 in 13 basis.


You will also be expected to engage in all areas of clinical governance, participate in clinical audits, and uphold an ongoing CPD programme, ensuring robust patient care practices. We support research initiatives and provide infrastructure and team backing for recruitment to NIHR and commercial studies. Your non-clinical contributions are valued and acknowledged in the job plan.


Requirements:

- Full GMC Registration and licence to practise

- MRCP or equivalent qualification

- On GMC Specialist Register or CESR submitted and within six months of obtaining Specialist Registration in General Internal Medicine by the date of the interview

- Proven experience in inpatient and outpatient management of general medical patients

- Participation in general medical on-calls at Registrar and/or Consultant level

- Demonstrated evidence of clinical management and audit practice

- Commitment and training in medical education and teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate levels

- Effective appraisal and assessment skills, with the ability to inspire and lead others
