Suffolk County Council is different. We are a modern, flexible, and forward-thinking organisation that's constantly evolving to meet the changing needs of our communities. As an Engineer specialising in NSIP's (Nationally Significant Infrastructure Projects) with us, you will enjoy a dynamic work environment where your ideas are valued, your potential is nurtured, and your work makes a tangible difference. Ready to reimagine what your career could be?
Your role and responsibilities
As an Engineer in our Transport Strategy team, you will play a key role in ensuring that highway improvements linked to NSIPs and other developments are delivered to the highest standards. Working within a small, supportive team, you will inspect construction works, ensure compliance with national and Suffolk County Council specifications, and help maintain accurate records for highway adoption.
You will be responsible for arranging and documenting inspections, liaising with lighting engineers, and ensuring that developers operate safe systems of work. You will also take action where standards are not met, represent the council at external meetings, and manage your own workload to meet key deadlines. In some cases, you may also direct the work of a development control clerk of works.
This is a varied and rewarding role that offers the opportunity to contribute to high-profile infrastructure projects while developing your technical and professional skills.
Your work will be based around the construction for the new nuclear power station, Sizewell C, in Suffolk.
You will need
- degree (Level 6) or foundation degree (Level 5) with significant experience in a relevant field
- experience in construction site supervision and a basic understanding of s38 and s278 agreements
- strong communication skills and the ability to interpret and explain technical information clearly
- a collaborative and inclusive approach, aligned with our WE ASPIRE values
- commitment to continuous improvement, innovation, and sustainable transport
- proficiency in Microsoft Office and other relevant software
- ability to manage your own time effectively and represent the authority in external meetings
- membership of a relevant professional organisation and progress toward professional qualification (desirable).

You will be part of a supportive, inclusive, and dynamic team environment, engaging with a challenging and varied workload tied to high-profile construction projects. The role offers access to regular technical presentations, a wide range of learning opportunities, and support for Continuing Professional Development and professional accreditation.
