To provide technical and administrative support to ensure the smooth running of the University/School's large hybrid computing platform and to assist in its development and expansion across multiple sites. Provide first-line support for the diagnosis and resolution of computing-related queries and problems, resolving problems in the first instance or escalating them to colleagues for follow-up as required. This position is available immediately to work as part of the IT Support Computer Technician team, reporting to the Senior Computer Technician. About the person: The successful candidate will have solid technical experience gained in a high-tech IT technical support role and excel in a customer-focused support capacity. You will proactively support staff and students across our sites and enjoy fielding queries from end users as part of the hands-on IT Support Team. You will provide professional support for setting up computer systems, troubleshooting problems, maintaining and managing computing and specialist laboratories, diagnosing and resolving issues in a timely manner. The role is widely varied, and you should expect a diverse range of technical support issues and be able to provide solutions in a simple, clear, customer friendly manner. Essential Criteria: Academic or vocational qualifications e.g. HND/HNC, NVQ 4 or equivalent standard in a relevant subject (lower qualifications may be considered if balanced by a greater amount of relevant experience). Significant work experience in a computer technician role(s) within a high-tech environment. Understanding and awareness of Health and Safety regulations and procedures. Comprehensive technical knowledge and experience of a wide range of computing systems, hardware andsoftware, including knowledge of Microsoft Windows 10/11. Demonstrable understanding and awareness of relevant Health and Safety regulations and procedures. Well-developed analytical and problem-solving capacity. Excellent organisation, planning and time management skills with ability to plan and organise short-term andmedium-term activities. Excellent team working skills. Excellent oral, communication and interpersonal skills. Responsive to change and adaptable to new challenges. Demonstrates attention to detail and works to exceptional levels of accuracy even under pressure. Willingness to work outside normal working hours if required by the role.
