The Team

The Risk & Compliance team at EML believes in rolling up their sleeves and getting things done.

At EML, we don't subscribe to ivory tower compliance – the organisation seeks a hands-on leader who will engage across the organisation and understand the practical impacts and outcomes of their work.


The Risk & Compliance team at EML is divided into two overarching teams:

  1. Country Risk & Compliance – hold broad responsibilities within their countries/regions and where applicable hold designated titles (such as SMF or PCF designations). They are supported in the execution of their functions and activities by a global team of specialists but maintain ultimate decision-making authority and control via oversight of all parts of programmes and activities that impact on their country/region.
  2. Global Risk & Compliance – narrowly focussed specific functions or areas, providing deep subject matter expertise, framework design and execution support and standardisation across the group in the areas of Regulatory Compliance, Risk Management and Strategy, Testing and Assurance, Regulatory Engagement and Reporting, and Privacy and Consumer Protection.


The Compliance Manager – Regulatory Engagement is a global specialist role, operating and coordinating across multiple jurisdictions and entities to ensure customer- centric and privacy-compliant practices across the business.


The Role

We are looking for an experienced and proactive individual to lead and support our global regulatory engagement efforts. Based in London, this is a critical role that will help shape and manage the company’s ongoing interactions with regulators and banking partners across multiple jurisdictions.

Reporting to the Global Head of Regulatory Compliance, this role will act as the central coordination point for regulatory engagements, communications, and relationship management, ensuring a consistent, transparent and professional approach across the business.


What You’ll Do

Regulatory Engagement Leadership

  • Lead preparation of materials (e.g. briefings, presentations) for regulatory interactions and support Country Risk & Compliance during these engagements.
  • Lead regulatory correspondence management including tracking, filing, and response coordination across all regions ;maintain centralised records of all regulatory communication, feedback, and outcomes, ensuring timely responses and follow-ups.
  • Support license applications and variation/renewal processes across global jurisdictions, working closely with Legal and local teams; maintain global license registers and monitor ongoing obligations, conditions, and renewals.
  • Lead regulatory consultation responses and industry engagement activities globally.
  • Lead and coordinate regulatory examinations, banking partner reviews, and independent audit engagements including planning, evidence collation, response development, and post-exam follow-up.
  • Maintain a robust documentation and recordkeeping framework for all regulatory interactions and reviews.


Regulatory Reporting Management

  • Lead and coordinate comprehensive regulatory reporting across all regulatory domains and global jurisdictions including UK, EU, APAC, and North America.
  • Establish regulatory reporting calendars, schedules, and submission tracking systems for all regions.
  • Coordinate regulatory data collection, validation, and quality assurance processes across global operations.
  • Lead preparation and submission of regulatory returns, notifications, and ad-hoc reporting requirements across multiple jurisdictions.
  • Coordinate regulatory notification requirements for businesschanges, incidents, and material events across multiple jurisdictions.
  • Maintain comprehensive regulatory correspondence records and documentation systems for all global operations.


Regulatory Change Management Support

  • Support regulatory change impact assessment and implementation planning.
  • Coordinate regulatory change communication and stakeholder engagement activities.
  • Lead regulatory change documentation and procedure updateprocesses.
  • Coordinate regulatory changeproject management and delivery activities.
  • Monitor regulatory developments and assess impact on reporting and engagement requirements.
  • Support regulatory horizon scanning and emerging requirement identification.
  • Coordinate regulatory intelligence sharing across compliance teams.
  • Work with Legal and Country Risk & Compliance colleagues to track and report on regulatory feedback, expectations, and emerging trends.


Coaching and Development

  • Lead team development and capability building initiatives.
  • Provide day-to-day guidance to team members and lead resource planning as needed.


Stakeholder Management

  • Work closely with senior stakeholders from all three lines of defence.
  • Coordinate with business units on regulatory reporting data provision and validation.
  • Support Legal function on regulatory matters, enforcement actions, and compliance issues.
  • Collaborate with Risk Management teams on regulatory risk assessment and reporting.
  • Support Finance function on regulatory capital and financial reporting requirements.
  • Support executive and board communication on regulatory engagement and reporting activities.
  • Lead internal stakeholder briefings on regulatory developments and requirements.


What You’ll Bring

  • Regulatory Experience: Deep understanding of the financial services regulatory landscape, with proven experience in engaging with multiple regulators.
  • Environment: Demonstrable experience in global, matrixed environments, including coordinating across time zones, cultures, and reporting lines; preferably in a payments or fintech environment.
  • Knowledge: Understanding of multiple regulatory frameworks across key jurisdictions (EU, UK, APAC and US), including the ability to interpret and apply common principles across jurisdictions. Deep knowledge of regulatory reporting requirements and best practices across multiple regulatory domains. Experience with license applications, regulatory reporting, and regulatory authority interactions acrossmultiple jurisdictions. Professional certifications such as from the International Compliance Association (ICA), or other relevant credentials preferred.
  • Technical: Strong project management skills with experience coordinating regulatory and examinations. Proficiency in data management and validation. Outstanding written and verbal communication skills with strong attention to detail with the ability to synthesise complex regulatory themes into actionable insights and clear communications.
  • Team: Engagement: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to influence and partner with senior leaders, regulators and cross-functional teams; experience managing a small team on a day-to-day basis, prioritising work to meet deadlines, and coaching more junior team members to help them develop and ensure they deliver high-quality work.
