JOB TITLE: Commercial Manager

A well-established civil engineering contractor with a strong reputation for quality, safety, and innovation is seeking an experienced and commercially driven Commercial Manager to lead its Inverness operations.

This is a senior leadership role suited to someone who can combine strong commercial expertise with a practical understanding of civil engineering projects, contracts, cost control, and client relationships. The successful candidate will play a key role in protecting margins, managing risk, and supporting the continued growth and performance of the business.

About the Role

As Commercial Manager, you will take full responsibility for the commercial performance of civil engineering projects in the Inverness area, overseeing all stages from tender through to final account.

You will collaborate closely with operational teams, clients, subcontractors, and senior leadership to maximise value, maintain strong contractual control, and ensure successful project delivery.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the commercial management of civil engineering projects across the Inverness region
• Oversee cost planning, budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting
• Manage valuations, applications for payment, variations, and final accounts
• Review and administer contract terms, identifying and mitigating commercial risks
• Support tendering and pricing activities with commercial input during pre-construction
• Monitor project performance and profitability, ensuring effective cost control
• Work closely with Contracts Managers, Project Managers, and site teams to improve commercial outcomes
• Manage subcontractor procurement, payments, and account settlements
• Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, suppliers, and internal stakeholders
• Produce accurate and timely commercial reports for senior management
• Contribute to the development of commercial processes, controls, and best practices

Essential Requirements

• Proven experience in a Commercial Manager, Senior Quantity Surveyor, or similar leadership role
• Strong background in civil engineering, infrastructure, groundworks, or construction
• Sound knowledge of contract administration and commercial management principles
• Experience managing project costs, valuations, variations, and final accounts
• Excellent negotiation and communication skills
• Strong commercial awareness with analytical and detail-oriented approach
• Ability to build credibility with both clients and internal teams
• Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities
• Proficiency in commercial reporting and cost management systems
• Full UK driving licence (preferred)
