Job Description
Commercial Gas Service & Breakdown Engineer\n\nJob Type: Permanent, Full-Time\n\nLocation: Mobile role covering various sites across the UK\n\nWorking Hours: Monday-Friday, 08:00-17:00 (40 hours per week)\n\nSalary: £50,000-£55,000 (£24.04-£26.44 per hour)\n\nReports To: Directors\n\nPre‑Employment Checks: Enhanced DBS and satisfactory references required\n\nRole Overview\n\nThe Commercial Gas Service & Breakdown Engineer will be responsible for the service, maintenance, repair, and installation of gas appliances and systems across commercial and domestic properties. This role requires strong diagnostic skills, a proactive approach, and a commitment to delivering a high first‑time fix rate and excellent customer service. Flexibility is essential, as additional duties may be required in line with operational needs.\n\nKey Responsibilities\n\nService & Maintenance\n\nCarry out routine servicing, maintenance, and safety checks on a variety of gas heating systems.\nIdentify required remedial works to ensure systems remain compliant with current gas/oil safety regulations.\nDeliver responsive maintenance and repairs as instructed.Breakdowns & Diagnostics\n\nAttend reactive call-outs to diagnose, fault find, and repair gas appliances efficiently.\nProvide high levels of first-time fixes through strong technical knowledge and experience.\nMake informed decisions if the required work differs from the original job order and report to management accordingly.Installation\n\nInstall commercial boilers and associated plant equipment.\nDirect support staff or helpers during installation or assembly works.Customer Care & Communication\n\nCommunicate professionally with clients, tenants, and site representatives.\nLiaise with management and/or clients to ensure work is completed to high standards.\nMaintain a positive, professional attitude at all times.Compliance & Safety\n\nAdhere to all site rules, company policies, and Health & Safety requirements.\nEnsure all work is completed safely and in accordance with industry codes and best practices.\nAccurately complete all job-related documentation and return required information promptly.Tools, Vehicles & Materials\n\nUse company vehicles and equipment safely and in line with policies.\nMaintain all tools and equipment to ensure safe operation.\nPurchase materials with a cost‑effective, best‑value approach.\nKeep company property clean, organised, and in good condition.Additional Responsibilities\n\nSupport the identification and quoting of additional works where required.\nParticipate in the emergency call-out rota.\nMaintain up-to-date training and certifications relevant to the role.
\n\nRequirements\n\nEssential Experience\n\nProven experience in commercial gas service, repair, fault finding, and maintenance.\nStrong diagnostic skills and ability to use electrical test equipment, including multimeters.\nFlexible approach to travel across the West & East Midlands and wider areas when required.\nWillingness to work additional hours based on operational needs.\nAbility to communicate effectively with tenants, clients, and the public.\nSelf-motivated, able to work independently and as part of a team.\nFull clean UK driving licence.Qualifications\n\nACS qualifications: CCN1, CENWAT, HTR1, CKR1, CDGA1, CIGA1, TPCP1, TPCP1A, CORT1, COMCAT. \n\nBenefits\n\nPay reviewed after successful probation period.\nPaid door-to-door (minus 30 minutes travel and 1 hour daily lunch).\nOvertime paid at time and a half.\nOn-call rota (1 in6-8 weeks): \n£100 standby payment\nFirst hour at £40\nAdditional hours at time and a half\n23 days annual leave plus bank holidays.\nNEST pension scheme.\nCompany health scheme (Vitality).\nCompany commercial vehicle with fuel card and M6 toll tag.\nCompany phone and expenses card.\nPower tools provided.\nCompany clothing, PPE, and boots allowance. \n\nAdecco acts as an employment agency for permanent recruitment and an employment business for the supply of temporary workers.
