Job Description £22 - £26 per hour Overview A growing Facilities Maintenance provider is seeking an experienced Commercial Gas Engineer to join its expanding Gas and Plumbing division. The role involves carrying out reactive maintenance and repair work across London and the surrounding Home Counties , primarily within hospitality environments such as hotels and restaurants . The successful engineer will focus on diagnosing and repairing gas-related faults, ensuring systems are restored quickly while maintaining high standards of safety, compliance, and customer service. Key Responsibilities Respond to reactive gas breakdowns and maintenance requests Diagnose faults and complete repairs efficiently Achieve first-time fix wherever possible Carry out both reactive and planned maintenance works Complete detailed job reports and surveys following site visits Communicate effectively with operations teams and clients Maintain high standards of safety, workmanship, and customer service Work collaboratively with colleagues and operational staff Skills & Experience Required Proven experience working within commercial gas maintenance Domestic and Commercial Gas qualifications G3 Unvented certification desirable Experience carrying out reactive maintenance in commercial environments Strong communication and customer service skills Ability to produce clear written reports Good organisational and time management skills Comfortable using handheld devices such as iPhone, iPad, or Android systems for reporting and job management Full UK Driving Licence (essential) Working Arrangements The role operates on a self-employed / sole trader basis . Engineers are provided with a company van, fuel card, and specialist tools , while personal hand and power tools are expected to be supplied by the engineer. Additional benefits include: Specialist training and qualifications funded by the company (subject to agreement) Parking and congestion charges fully covered Company branded workwear including tops, hoodies, and body warmers Working Hours Engineers are typically expected to attend their first site by 8:00am , with an average working day of 8:00am - 5:00pm on site . Due to travel and job scheduling, the role typically equates to approximately 12-13 hours door-to-door . Overtime opportunities are regularly available. Pay Structure Hourly rates are dependent on experience and qualifications, typically: £22 - £26 per hour Travel arrangements include: Travel to the first job paid at £15 per hour until arrival on site Full hourly rate paid from arrival at the first job through to completion of the final job Travel between jobs fully paid Return travel exceeding 1.5 hours also paid Overtime & Call-Out Work completed between 6pm - 6am paid at time and a half Engineers participate in a 1 in 4-5 week call-out rota Call-out payments per day: First job: £100 Second job: £75 Third job: £50 Longer call-out works may instead be calculated and paid at overtime rates. Payment Payments are made on the last Friday of each month , with the preceding Sunday acting as the payroll cut-off. xehkeey A flat 20% tax deduction is applied, with engineers responsible for submitting annual financial summaries to their accountant for tax return purposes.
