CNC Machinist

New Today

An established engineering business with a strong reputation in specialist mechanical refurbishment is seeking a skilled CNC Machinist to join its workshop team. This is not a high‑volume, repetitive machining role - instead, it suits an all‑round manual machinist who enjoys problem‑solving and variety, working on bespoke repairs where no two jobs are the same. You'll be interpreting CAD drawings, assessing component wear and damage, and determining the most efficient and accurate machining processes to restore critical parts to specification.

Reporting directly to the Branch Manager and working closely with the workshop team, you will be responsible for machining a wide range of components as part of complex refurbishments. The role is hands‑on and varied, requiring both technical expertise and the ability to work independently.

Key responsibilities for the CNC Machinist include:

Reviewing CAD drawings, samples, and specifications to plan machining methods and job sequencing
Setting, operating, and monitoring CNC and manual machinery, including lathes and milling machines
Producing batch and one‑off components while maintaining tight tolerances and quality standards
Inspecting finished components using precision measuring equipment and maintaining production records
Carrying out routine machine maintenance and ensuring a safe, clean working environment

The Ideal CNC Machinist:

This role will suit an experienced machinist who enjoys variety and technical challenge rather than repetitive production work.

You will ideally have:

Proven experience as a machinist in a machine shop or refurbishment environment
Strong ability to read and interpret CAD drawings and blueprints to determine machining processes
Experience operating CNC machinery alongside manual lathes, mills, grinders, and other workshop equipment
Confidence working with ferrous and non‑ferrous materials, plastics, and copper
Excellent attention to detail, sound knowledge of speeds and feeds, and the ability to work on your own initiative or as part of a team

Formal machining qualifications or apprenticeships are desirable but not essential; demonstrable hands‑on experience and problem‑solving ability are key.
