Civil / Structural Design Engineer (TPW)

Remote working with occasional office visits to Manchester
We are seeking a candidate to join our 'Civil' Design team. This role involves producing and reviewing technical solutions for our Large Transmission Solutions business.
The successful candidate will work collaboratively with other design disciplines, providing solutions and technical input to live projects. They should be capable of self-delivering solutions, providing governance on proposals, and managing work packages on time and within budget.
This varied role requires a diverse skill set. We are looking for someone technically excellent, reliable, detail-oriented, and able to identify value opportunities.
Your profile
- Experience exceeding standard civil/structural engineering requirements, supporting other disciplines
- Knowledge of M&E design concepts and coordination
- Experience with civil/structural design consultancy
- Broad experience in civil and structural design, with architectural knowledge
- Understanding of the Construction (Design & Management) Regulations 2015, including obligations outside the UK
- Earthworks design knowledge and familiarity with the Specification for Highway Works
- Proficiency with computational frame design software (e.g., Masterseries, Tedds, STAD-Pro)
- Ability to interpret preconstruction information, drainage impact assessments, geotechnical reports
- Skill in reviewing calculations and ensuring design quality and economy
- Awareness of planning consents and managing third-party technical support
- Experience with multidisciplinary projects in power transmission or similar industries
- Good technical knowledge and familiarity with British and European codes
- Understanding of design task scheduling and discipline linkages
- Ability to communicate instructions effectively to external design teams
- Client-facing skills and relevant engineering or construction qualifications
- Chartered Engineer or equivalent experience
- Knowledge of fire design and life/asset preservation concepts (beneficial)
Your responsibilities
- Manage design and coordination packages from transfer to practical completion for electrical infrastructure projects
- Support procurement and construction teams technically
- Produce designs using calculations, spreadsheets, and software
- Conduct governance checks on internal and external design efforts
- Ensure third-party designs meet contractual and regulatory requirements
- Align design outputs with inputs and manage scope of work documents
- Collaborate with disciplines, develop scoping documents, and manage tender packages
- Review design packages, check interfaces, and support planning and scheduling
- Monitor design progress and quality, lead design reviews
- Coordinate with clients, consultants, and project teams
- Identify and manage design changes affecting budget and schedule
- Conduct site visits to resolve construction constraints
