Job Description
Job Title: Civil Litigation Solicitor\nLocation: Birmingham\nPosition: Full-time\nReports to: Head of Department\n\nOverview\n\nAn excellent opportunity has arisen for a driven and commercially astute Civil Litigation Solicitor to join a growing and dynamic legal practice. This role offers exposure to a broad range of disputes and the autonomy to manage your own caseload while contributing to the continued success of a high-performing litigation team.\n\nYou will act for a diverse client base across a wide spectrum of civil disputes, making this an ideal position for a solicitor seeking variety, responsibility, and long-term career progression.\n\nKey Objectives\n\n * Deliver high-quality -earning work and contribute to departmental profitability\n\n * Provide strategic, commercially focused advice to clients\n\n * Support the ongoing growth and success of the litigation function\n\nKey Responsibilities\n\n * Manage a varied caseload of civil litigation matters from inception to resolution\n\n * Handle disputes including:\n\n * Commercial and contractual disputes\n\n * Landlord and tenant (commercial and residential) matters\n\n * Building and construction disputes\n\n * Debt recovery matters\n\n * General civil litigation, including a small proportion of personal injury cases\n\n * Take client instructions and advise on funding options\n\n * Conduct pre-action work in line with protocols\n\n * Draft and prepare legal documentation, including:\n\n * Pleadings and statements of case\n\n * Witness statements\n\n * Schedules of loss\n\n * Court applications and supporting documents\n\n * Issue and progress court proceedings in accordance with the Civil Procedure Rules\n\n * Liaise with clients, counsel, experts, and third parties\n\n * Manage client relationships and provide regular updates on case progress\n\n * Maintain accurate case management records and time recording\n\nDesirable Experience\n\n * Advocacy experience\n\n * Exposure to contentious probate matters\n\nSkills & Experience\n\n * Qualified Solicitor in England & Wales with 2+ years’ PQE in Civil Litigation\n\n * Strong technical knowledge of litigation procedures and the Civil Procedure Rules\n\n * Proven ability to manage a caseload independently\n\n * Experience handling a broad range of disputes\n\n * Excellent drafting, negotiation, and analytical skills\n\n * Strong client management and communication abilities\n\n * Proficient in Microsoft Office and case management systems\n\nPerson Specification\n\nCommercial Awareness\n\nUnderstands financial performance, billing, and cost recovery\n\nManages WIP, cash flow, and risk effectively\n\nIdentifies opportunities for business development and service improvement\n\nClient Focus\n\nBuilds strong, professional client relationships\n\nDelivers responsive, high-quality legal services\n\nMaintains strict confidentiality and professionalism at all times\n\nPersonal Effectiveness\n\nHighly organised with strong time management skills\n\nAble to prioritise workload and meet deadlines under pressure\n\nWorks independently while contributing positively to the team\n\nCommunication & Leadership\n\nCommunicates clearly and confidently, both verbally and in writing\n\nExercises sound judgement and decision-making\n\nCapable of supervising or supporting junior team members where appropriate\n\nDevelopment & Growth\n\nCommitted to continuous professional development\n\nProactively seeks opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge\n\nContributes to a collaborative and high-performance culture\n\nSalary & Benefits\n\nCompetitive Salary\n\nPerformance-related incentives\n\nClear progression opportunities\n\nOngoing training and professional development\n\nSupportive and forward-thinking working environment\n\nWe endeavour to reply to every candidate, every time; however, if you have not received a response within 10 days, please assume that your application has been unsuccessful on this occasion or that the position has been filled
