Location: Hinkley Point C Site, Hybrid role - On site 3 days per week.

BPSS clearance at basic level is required. Prior clearance is not transferable.

The Hinkley Point C Project is divided into programmes aligned to plant islands or discipline-based scopes, delivered partly by EDF Nuclear New Build (NNB) resources and major contracts.

As part of the Joint Design Office (JDO), you will:

1. Ensure all design and construction changes are delivered on time.
2. Attend readiness reviews of Design Packages for construction.
3. Collaborate with Design, Contractor, and Construction teams to maintain technical quality, safety, and schedule.

Operating Environment

The Civil Engineer is the technical lead reviewing and accepting design changes, managing interfaces between contractors and designers, working on-site with the Construction Team, fostering an inclusive and dynamic environment.

Principal Accountabilities

1. Approve design changes proposed by contractors or designers.
2. Support the handover of Design Packages for construction.
3. Ensure compliance with quality procedures.
4. Manage CDM aspects and discharge the role of principal designer.
5. Perform surveillance for nuclear safety acceptance during construction.
6. Ensure the safety case and design maintain a clear golden thread for operations.

Knowledge & Skills (Essential)

• Experience with design processes, preferably in the nuclear industry.
• Knowledge of concrete design codes like Eurocode 2.
• Experience with hazard & safety case design.
• Familiarity with UK CDM regulations and working in a regulated industry.
• Delivery focus, planning skills, and ability to work under pressure.
• Proactive, pragmatic, and problem-solving approach.

Qualifications & Experience

• Advanced degree in civil or structural engineering.

Desirable:

• PWR technology design, safety case, or operation experience.
• Chartered Engineer status with ICE or IStructE.
