Chief Risk Officer (CRO)

A pivotal role establishing the risk, compliance and governance framework for the next phase of Northern LGPS’s development.

About Northern LGPS

Northern LGPS is a c£70bn pooled investment partnership for the Local Government Pension Scheme, bringing together the investments of Greater Manchester Pension Fund, Merseyside Pension Fund and West Yorkshire Pension Fund. Building on its collaboration over several years, Northern LGPS is entering the next phase of its development, focusing on establishing an FCA authorised investment management company with a dedicated senior leadership team, strengthening governance, and creating a clear operating model to support long‑term investment outcomes.

The Role

  • Design and implement the risk and compliance framework for a new organisation
  • Ensure regulatory expectations are met from inception and as the organisation evolves
  • Provide independent, proportionate risk advice to the CEO and Board
  • Build and lead the risk and compliance function
  • Embed a strong culture of risk awareness, resilience and accountability
  • Carry out the SMF 4 role for a c£70bn AIFM with MiFID permissions

About You

  • Senior investment professional with deep experience in institutional investment management
  • Strong understanding of investment, operational and regulatory risk
  • Experience of operating at a senior level in regulated environments and engaging with regulators
  • Pragmatic, proportionate approach to risk and control
  • Motivated by shaping frameworks rather than inheriting them
