Kickstart Your Career and Help Shape a Better Environment for Everyone
Want to make a real difference for people and the environment? At the Environment Agency, we’re looking for passionate individuals to join us and help tackle some of the biggest environmental challenges.
Our 12-week Business & Comms Summer Internship programmes start in June and give you hands-on experience while building skills that matter. This is more than just a standard internship - it’s an opportunity to learn, grow, and explore career pathways that could lead to your next big step.
What you’ll do
Business & Communications roles sit at the centre of how the Environment Agency works, helping leaders, teams and partners turn ideas, data and policy into clear actions and messages.
Typical activities include:
- Supporting senior leaders and governance – helping run Executive Office meetings, preparing papers, coordinating agendas, and making sure decisions and actions are followed up.
- Communicating clearly and confidently – contributing to internal updates, digital communications, presentations and briefings for colleagues and stakeholders.
- Coordinating projects and priorities – tracking actions, managing timelines, and supporting delivery across multiple teams and programmes.
- Working with data and insight – analysing information, preparing reports or dashboards (e.g. using Excel or Power BI) to support decision-making.
- Engaging stakeholders – working with colleagues across the EA, Defra, local partners and external organisations to share information and align activity.
- Supporting EDI, sustainability and transformation initiatives – helping deliver projects that improve how the organisation works and how it supports people and the environment.
- Getting exposure to policy and strategy – seeing how environmental priorities, government policy and organisational strategy connect in practice.
What’s in it for you?
- Invest in your future and the planet. Ethical, career-average pension with around 19% employer contribution — helping you grow your future and support the planet.
- Time to recharge, time to thrive. Enjoy 25 days of annual leave (or equivalent for your work pattern), plus bank holidays, because balance matters.
- Flexibility that works for you. Flexible working where possible - hybrid, part-time or compressed hours.
- Supportive networks that help you thrive. Supportive networks from day one - office buddies, peer groups and mentors to help you settle in, grow and shape your experience.
- Your development, your way. We’ll build a personalised training plan with you and encourage you to be proactive, explore new challenges and make the most of every opportunity.
