Building Surveyor / Employer’s Agent, Cambridge (JPC-86)
Salary: £40,000–£55,000
Location: Cambridge (regional travel required)
Overview
This hybrid position blends Building Surveying and Employer’s Agent responsibilities. You will carry out technical inspections and reporting while also managing construction projects from pre-contract through to completion.
Key Responsibilities
Building Surveying Duties
- Conduct site inspections and defect assessments
- Prepare building pathology reports and technical documentation
- Review drawings, specifications and compliance information
- Support remediation, refurbishment and new-build schemes
Employer’s Agent Duties
- Manage pre-contract processes, investigations and due diligence
- Prepare ERs, performance specs and JCT contract documents
- Lead tender processes and evaluate submissions
- Oversee construction delivery, hold progress meetings and monitor quality
- Issue instructions, notices, and certificates
- Manage cashflow, valuations and final accounts
- Coordinate snagging, handover and defects periods
Client Relationship Management
- Liaise with Housing Associations, Developers, Local Authorities, and other stakeholders
- Provide clear updates on programmes, risks and deliverables
- Understand varying client requirements across sectors
Experience & Qualifications
- Degree in Building Surveying or related discipline
- 2–5 years’ experience in BS/EA roles
- Strong technical knowledge: JCT contracts, building regulations, defect diagnosis
- Experience across residential, public sector, mixed-use or regeneration projects
- Excellent report writing and communication skills
- Full UK driving licence
