AVP Actuary – Assumption Development Lead We are a global life reinsurer operating in Europe, Asia, Australia and North America, part of Pacific Life, a US‑based mutual insurance group. Role Overview Join our Global R&D function as a leader of a team of five actuaries and analysts, developing biometric assumptions for a range of global reinsurance markets. You will influence key stakeholders to maximise the value of assumption knowledge. Collaborate with colleagues across Europe and North America on Longevity and Protection markets, handling planning, team management, technical direction, stakeholder engagement and implementation. Key focus is scaling team capabilities to accommodate increased assumption volume through economies of scale, standardisation and shared capabilities. Lead stakeholder relationships with:
R&D teams across multiple geographies Savings & Retirement and Protection teams within the Reinsurance Division for Pricing and Product developments Division teams such as Corporate Actuarial, Operations and Risk Biometric teams in other Divisions on US market shared assumptions

Recognised leader in assumption development, setting direction and raising the bar. Redefine market‑leading practices with intellectual curiosity, challenging inherited methods. Build a high‑performing, scalable team, streamlining processes and developing future talent. Influence high‑level decisions, forging relationships with senior stakeholders across Pricing and Product. Provide rigorous independent challenge to Pricing assumptions, ensuring intellectual honesty. Shape the profession through thought leadership, academic partnerships and research initiatives.
Desirable Skills & Experience
Experience in assumption development with a reinsurer, life company or consultancy. Qualified Fellow of the Institute or Faculty of Actuaries or similar, with 6+ years post‑qualified experience. Strong understanding of Longevity or Protection insurance/reinsurance markets. Ability to develop and implement new approaches and techniques. Excellent report writing and verbal communication; ability to present to senior managers. Independent thinker who challenges the status quo. Organised and deadline‑focused. Interest in programming and experience with software such as Tableau, SQL, R. Experience in people management or mentoring, interest in coaching and developing junior staff.
