Autism Teaching Assistant - Secondary SEN School

Location: Lewisham, South East London Start Date: September 2025 Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:30am - 3:30pm Pay Rate: £95 - £115 per day (dependent on experience) Contract: Full-time | Term-time only

A well-resourced and supportive secondary SEN school in Lewisham is seeking a dedicated Autism Teaching Assistant to work within its specialist SEN units. You'll be supporting students aged 11-18 with Autism, Global Developmental Delay, ADHD, and physical disabilities.

The Role:

Provide 1:1 and small group support for pupils with complex needs

Assist with personal care and mobility where required

Support students with communication, emotional regulation, and classroom engagement

Work closely with SEN teachers and therapists to implement EHCP targets

Use specialist tools such as PECS, Makaton, or sensory strategies (training can be provided)

Maintain a calm, consistent presence in class and around the school

The Ideal Candidate Will Have:

Previous experience working with students with autism and complex needs

Confidence supporting children with physical disabilities and personal care

A calm, patient and proactive approach to supporting behaviour and learning

An enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply)

A genuine passion for SEN and inclusive education
