Are you passionate about supporting young people with autism to thrive in their education? Academics, a trusted education recruitment agency, is looking for a caring and proactive Autism Teaching Assistant to join one of our specialist SEN school partners in Lichfield.
As an Autism Teaching Assistant, you will play a vital role in helping pupils with ASC (Autism Spectrum Condition) access learning, manage routines, and develop social and communication skills in a nurturing, structured environment. You'll work closely with class teachers, therapists, and other professionals to create a consistent and supportive experience for the students.
The ideal Autism Teaching Assistant will:
* Have experience supporting children or young people with autism or complex learning needs * Be calm, patient, and adaptable to individual student requirements * Use visual supports, routines, and sensory strategies effectively * Be confident using PECS, Makaton, or other communication systems (desirable but not essential) * Genuinely care about helping pupils overcome barriers and celebrate every achievement
Key Responsibilities:
* Providing 1:1 and small group support to students with autism * Supporting the delivery of tailored learning activities * Assisting with communication strategies and sensory regulation * Encouraging independence and social development * Working collaboratively with the SEN team to implement individual education plans (IEPs)
