Job Description

Our client is a well-established and growing independent accountancy practice based in Liverpool, operating across the North West. The firm has a strong reputation for delivering high-quality audit, accounting, and advisory services to a broad client base, with particular expertise in SME/owner-managed businesses and the not-for-profit sector. With a collaborative culture and clear succession planning in place, this is a key strategic hire aimed at strengthening and developing the firm's audit function.\n\nRole Overview - Audit Manager\n\nThe successful candidate will play a central role in managing audit engagements, developing client relationships, and contributing to the growth of the audit department.\n\nManaging and delivering audit assignments from planning through to completion\nActing as the main point of contact for a varied client portfolio, including SME/owner-managed businesses, not-for-profit organisations, and professional practices\nLine managing and developing a team of 3-4 staff members\nReviewing audit work and ensuring compliance with UK auditing standards\nTaking an active role in business development, including:\nSupporting pitches and tender processes\nIdentifying opportunities within existing client relationships\nBuilding commercial awareness and visibility within the firm\nAssisting with ad hoc projects including due diligence assignments and complex accounting issues\nSupporting the firm's audit quality control processes\nWorking closely with senior leadership with the aim of stepping into an RI role in the short term \n\nRole Requirements - Audit Manager\n\nACA or ACCA qualified\nProven experience operating at Audit Manager level within a UK practice\nStrong knowledge of UK auditing and accounting standards\nBackground in general practice with experience managing multiple audits concurrently\nExperience supervising and developing junior team members\nExposure to not-for-profit or SME audit work is highly desirable\nExperience with SRA Accounts Rules reviews would be an advantage, but not essential \n\nSalary & Benefits - Audit Manager\n\nSalary: £50,000- £60,000 (depending on experience)\nWorking hours: 9:00am - 5:00pm (office-based role in Liverpool)\nClear progression pathway to RI status\nExposure to business development and leadership responsibilities\nSupportive and collaborative working environment\nOpportunity to shape and grow the firm's audit offering\nStandard holiday entitlement (25-27 days + bank holidays, depending on level and experience)\nPension scheme\nAdditional discretionary bonus and performance-based review opportunitiesBennett and Game Recruitment are a multi-disciplined technical recruitment agency based in Chichester, West Sussex operating across the UK with specialist teams covering a range of industries.\n\nWe are acting as a Recruitment Agency in relation to this vacancy, and in accordance with GDPR by applying you are granting us consent to process your data, contact you about the services we offer, and submit your CV for the role you have applied for
