Audit Associate Director (RI / Future RI)

Our client, a multi-disciplinary accountancy practice is looking to hire an Audit Senior Manager / Associate Director RI in their London office.
The ideal candidate will be a general practice associate director who has an audit and accounts focus and is either already a Responsible Individual (RI) or a senior manager who will be willing to obtain RI status and sign off audits. Candidates must be ACA / ACCA qualified.
The firm offers a wide range of general and specialist services, including proactive advice on business structures, tax planning and compliance, auditing, business acquisitions and disposals and international services through their overseas network.
Role Overview
The successful candidate will take responsibility for a mixed portfolio of audit and accountancy clients, working closely with partners and playing a key role in the ongoing development of the practice. This is a senior position with a clear pathway towards Responsible Individual (RI) status (or suited to someone who already holds RI status).
Key Responsibilities
Managing a portfolio of audit and accounts clients, including SMEs and group structures
Leading audit assignments from planning through to completion and sign-off (subject to RI status)
Acting as a primary point of contact for clients, building strong, long-term relationships
Supervising, mentoring, and developing junior staff, including involvement in training and recruitment
Supporting business development initiatives, including identifying opportunities and assisting with pitching for new work
Contributing to the firm’s audit quality and compliance, including engagement with ICAEW and other regulatory requirements
Playing an active role in improving internal processes, systems, and overall efficiency within the audit and accounts’ function
Key Requirements
Strong experience within a UK accountancy practice environment (essential)
Either currently operating as an RI or demonstrating the capability and ambition to obtain RI status in the near term
Proven experience managing SME clients and group audits
Solid and up-to-date knowledge of UK audit and accounting standards, including familiarity with current audit methodologies and software
Background in a reputable UK firm, ideally mid-tier or larger
Exposure to group consolidations and more complex structures
Experience with due diligence or transactional work
Working knowledge of tax (useful but not a primary focus)
Leadership & Personal Qualities
Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to build credibility and rapport with clients and colleagues
A confident communicator, comfortable operating at a senior level
Proven leadership capability, with experience developing and mentoring teams
A proactive and commercially aware mindset, with an interest in driving improvements and implementing change within the firm
