Job Description
Associate / Senior Associate – Non‑Contentious Construction (2–5 PQE)
London
Top 50 City firm
The Role:
A well respected London-based law firm is seeking a non-contentious construction solicitor, with 2–5 years’ PQE, to join its highly regarded Construction team. This role will focus exclusively on non-dispute work: advising on construction documentation, appointments, contract negotiation, and related commercial real estate issues.
What You’ll Do:
Draft, negotiate, and manage construction‑related documents such as: JCT (and other standard form) building contracts, professional appointments, collateral warranties / third‑party rights, novation agreements, and surety/guarantee documentation.
Provide procurement advice for different construction routes and contribute to decisions about the strategic procurement strategy.
Work closely with real estate and development teams, giving construction input into wider real estate documentation (e.g., development finance, real estate acquisitions).
Conduct due diligence on construction documentation as part of real estate or development transactions, and produce detailed legal reports on the construction risk.
Support funders, developers, institutional investors, and private clients on the construction arrangements for projects (both for funding and development).
Advise on building security documentation, third‑party rights, and the contractual packaging required by funders or end users.
Collaborate with senior lawyers and partners to help grow and develop the construction practice, including contributing to business development.
About You:
Qualified solicitor (England & Wales) with 2–5 years’ PQE, preferably gained in a top‑tier real estate / construction practice.
Strong technical legal knowledge: adept at drafting construction and consultant documents, amendments to standard contracts, security documentation, and third-party rights.
Good commercial judgement, able to balance risk with business objectives.
Excellent attention to detail and strong drafting skills.
Strong client‑relationship skills and the confidence to engage with a variety of stakeholders (developers, funders, contractors, consultants).
Team player: collaborative, supportive, and willing to contribute to a collegiate culture.
Organised and able to manage multiple streams of work and deadlines.
Ambitious, proactive, and keen to contribute to business development and the growth of the team.
Why This Role / Firm:
Join a well-respected Construction practice in London, known for its deep expertise in non-contentious matters.
Work with a broad range of high-calibre clients, including developers, funders, institutional investors, and private individuals, across asset classes such as residential, hotels, student accommodation, and more.
Exposure to complex development projects from inception to completion, with opportunities to advise on procurement, construction documentation, and funding.
A supportive, commercial, and collegial environment where professional development is encouraged — and where you can play a meaningful role in shaping the firm’s construction offering.
