Penguin Recruitment is delighted to be supporting a leading independent consultancy in their search for an Associate - Environmental Planning to join their growing team.
This is an exciting opportunity to work on a diverse portfolio of high-profile projects across sectors including large-scale regeneration, infrastructure, residential, logistics, and commercial development.
The Role
As an Associate, you will play a key role in leading the delivery of environmental planning services and Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) projects. This position combines technical leadership, project management, and client-facing responsibilities within a collaborative and dynamic environment.
You will take ownership of projects from inception to completion, ensuring high-quality outputs, strong financial performance, and effective stakeholder engagement.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead the delivery of environmental planning and EIA projects with minimal senior oversight
* Manage multiple projects, coordinating multidisciplinary teams
* Oversee project finances, including budgets, WIP, invoicing, and fee management
* Prepare fee proposals, tenders, and project programmes
* Produce high-quality reports and develop strategic EIA approaches
* Lead client, stakeholder, and project meetings
* Coordinate and review EIA deliverables including screening, scoping, and assessments
* Act as a trusted advisor to clients, stakeholders, and planning authorities
* Support business development through networking, marketing, and client relationship building
* Mentor junior team members and contribute to team development initiatives
Requirements
* Relevant degree (or higher) in Environmental Planning or a related field
* Ideally holds or is working towards IEMA Registered EIA Practitioner and Chartered Environmentalist status
* Strong knowledge of EIA regulations, planning processes, and relevant legislation
* Proven experience managing project finances and making commercially sound decisions
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills
* Strong analytical ability and attention to detail
* Ability to work both independently and collaboratively
* Proficiency in Microsoft Office and relevant project tools
