Balfour Beatty Living Places is seeking an Assistant Quantity Surveyor to join our Commercial team, supporting the delivery of vital local authority infrastructure and community-focused projects across Buckinghamshire.
This is a fantastic opportunity for an ambitious Assistant QS to develop their commercial career within a Tier 1 contractor, working on long-term, sustainable frameworks that genuinely improve places where people live and work.
With the support of experienced commercial professionals, you’ll assist in managing project costs, engaging with the supply chain, and ensuring works are delivered in line with contractual, legal, and quality standards

What you'll be doing
Key Responsibilities
Cost & Commercial Management
- Supporting the management of project costs and values
- Measuring, recording and valuing works in line with company procedures
- Assisting with cost and value reporting, including cost reconciliation statements
- Gathering and collating pre- and post-contract documentation
- Assisting with procurement activities and supply chain engagement
- Supporting subcontractor measurement and agreement of works
- Supporting weekly and monthly works programmes
- Developing awareness of different programme formats
- Using Balfour Beatty systems (ERP) to collate cost and value information
- Maintaining a Personal Development Plan
- Working towards professional membership (RICS, ICES or CIOB)
- Supporting the development of colleagues within the team
Essential
- BSc (or equivalent) in Quantity Surveying (or in the final stages of completing)
- A genuine interest in commercial management within construction or infrastructure
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Previous industry or site-based experience
- Knowledge of Quantity Surveying duties within a highways or civil engineering environment
- A proactive, achievement-focused mindset
- Long-term, secure work through local authority frameworks
- Clear development pathways within a leading Tier 1 contractor
- Exposure to meaningful projects that improve communities
- Support towards professional accreditation
