Assistant Quantity Surveyor - Main Contractor - New build and refurbishment


Location: Central London


Salary: £45,000 – £60,000 + Benefits


Reporting to: Managing Surveyor

The Role


This is an excellent opportunity for an Assistant Quantity Surveyor to develop their career on large-scale, high-value projects, working closely with experienced Senior and Managing Quantity Surveyors.


You will be involved throughout the full project lifecycle — from pre-construction and procurement through to delivery and final account — gaining hands-on experience in commercial management within a collaborative, structured environment. The role offers genuine career progression toward Quantity Surveyor level and beyond.


Key Responsibilities


  • Assist with the commercial management of high-end projects ranging up to £100m.
  • Support pre-construction activities, including cost planning, tender analysis, and procurement.
  • Prepare and manage subcontract packages, variations, valuations, and cost reports.
  • Assist with monthly valuations, forecasting, and cash flow management.
  • Work closely with site and delivery teams to ensure commercial controls are maintained.
  • Support final accounts and client reporting to the highest professional standards.
  • Maintain strong relationships with supply chain partners and consultants.
  • Ensure compliance with internal procedures and contractual requirements.


About You


  • 2–5+ years’ experience as an Assistant Quantity Surveyor within a main contractor.
  • Exposure to high-end residential, commercial, fit-out, or refurbishment projects.
  • Experience working on complex or high-value schemes (or a strong desire to move into this level of work).
  • Strong numerical, analytical, and organisational skills.
  • A proactive, detail-oriented approach with a willingness to learn.
  • Ambitious and career-driven, with a clear goal to progress to Quantity Surveyor and beyond.
  • Degree-qualified in Quantity Surveying or a related discipline (or working toward).
