A well‑established regional contractor in Portsmouth is seeking an ambitious Assistant Quantity Surveyor to join its growing commercial team. This is a fantastic opportunity for an AQS looking to take the next step in their career, gain exposure to full project lifecycle management, and develop under experienced commercial leaders.
The Role
As an Assistant Quantity Surveyor, you will support the commercial team across a variety of construction projects, helping manage costs, procurement, and financial reporting. You'll work closely with Quantity Surveyors, Site Teams, and Estimators while building the technical skills needed to progress toward a full QS position.
Key Responsibilities
Assist in preparing cost plans, valuations, and final accounts Support procurement activities, tender analysis, and subcontractor appointments Monitor project costs and update commercial reports Help manage variations, change control, and cashflow forecasts Undertake site visits and liaise with site teams to gather accurate commercial data Assist senior QS team members with commercial administration and contract management Maintain strong working relationships with clients, consultants, and supply chain partners
Requirements
Experience as an Assistant QS or Trainee QS within construction Understanding of basic commercial processes and construction contracts Excellent numerical, analytical, and organisational skills Strong communication and willingness to learn Degree or diploma in Quantity Surveying or similar (preferred) Proficient with Microsoft Excel and commercial software
