Job Description
Role: Assistant Quantity Surveyor \nLocation: Reading, Berkshire, RG1\nSalary: Up to £45,000 Plus Package \nBenefits: Bonus scheme + Benefits\n\nAbout your new company:\n\nA fantastic opportunity to join a well-established contractor based in the Berkshire area working on a variety of residential contracting projects typically valuing up to £10m.\n\nDuties for the Assistant Quantity Surveyor:\n \nAttend the site pre-start meeting to understand the construction issue drawings with the Senior / Quantity Surveyor. \nAssist with the compiling of tender packages for all sub-contract trades. \nReceive tenders and assist with the analysis sheet for each trade comparing tender levels.
\nAssist with the issuing of sub-contract orders in accordance with Group Policy and Commercial Best Practice to budget and within programme requirements. Attend sub-contract pre-order meetings. \nLiaise with Build Department on sub-contractors’ performance and compliance with order conditions.
\nAssist with the production of sub-contract orders to accord with site programmed build requirements in accordance with Group Policy and Group Rebate schemes and fully adjudicate prior to issue of documentation. \nTo liaise with the Quantity Surveyor / Senior Quantity Surveyor and provide all necessary forecast and site budget information to meet the business’s reporting requirements. \nAssist with the control and reporting of post contract cost movements to provide such monthly reporting as required by the Commercial Manager.
\nEnsure invoices/applications for payments are processed in accordance with Standard Terms and Conditions of Contract. \nImmediately advise management of notification of impending claim or legal action arising from a disputed claim or payment from a Sub-Contractor/Service Provider. \nWhere necessary, assist in determining a sub-contract order in accordance with Standard Terms and Conditions of Employment and liaise with Build Department in this respect.
\nDiligently use the BMS and processes to manage site project administration, including orders, variations, valuations, etc. \nAssist in the regular review of materials on-site and material valuations. \nSettle all variation invoices/applications for payment in accordance with Standard Terms and Conditions of Contract.
\nAssist with the certifying of retention releases on completion of the project. \nAssist with the preparation and agreement of sub-contract final accounts. \nMaintaining necessary systems to efficiently file and retrieve information and to allow others to do likewise in accordance with the Business Management System .
\nAssist with maintaining final account schedules. \nRequirements for the Assistant Quantity Surveyor\n \nHNC / Degree qualified in Quantity Surveying / Construction management or equivalent \nWorking knowledge of JCT forms of contract including D&B. \nA good understanding or building regulations and legal obligations \nA good knowledge or construction methods and materials \nStrong mathematical and IT ability \nGood understanding of standard measurement rules \nStrong Microsoft Excel knowledge \nAbility to assess and analyse information \nGood business sense \nGood understanding of budget management \nNegotiating and networking skills \nExcellent communications skills \nAble to work under pressure and accept criticism of work \nGood team working skills \nAccurate with an eye for detail \nA methodical approach \nWilling to work extra to meet deadlines as and when the business needs require
