Please note: this vacancy may close earlier than advertised once a suitable number of applications have been received.
We are seeking an enthusiastic and committed graduate to join our Trust as a Band 5 Gastroenterology Assistant Psychologist. The role involves conducting assessments, brief interventions and providing support for patients admitted to the hospital wards with alcohol‑related problems, as well as data collection and analysis.
The role of Gastroenterology Assistant Psychologist has been established within the Trust for over ten years and has resulted in a reduction in readmissions and alcohol consumption for patients with alcohol related admissions.
You will be working alongside a busy multi‑disciplinary team and will be accountable to a Consultant Gastroenterologist and receive remote clinical supervision from a Clinical Psychologist.
Responsibilities
- To promote and coordinate a seamless pathway of care for patients with alcohol‑related admissions from diagnosis and identification through to treatment and outpatient management.
- Practice autonomously and be self‑directed, with appropriate supervision.
- To participate in clinical governance and utilise research skills for audit, service development and research within the area served.
- Draw on a diverse range of knowledge in their decision making to determine evidence‑based therapeutic interventions.
- The postholder will perform Fibroscan® assessment for inpatients to assess liver damage related to alcohol, with appropriate training.
The post will be based mainly on the sites of the Hillingdon Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, predominantly the Hillingdon site and CNWL sites (Addiction Recovery Community Hillingdon (ARCH), Uxbridge). The postholder will be onsite Monday‑Friday 08:00‑16:00. It is a 9‑month contract extendable subject to individual review.
Interview date to be confirmed.
