Job Title Consulting Assistant Manager – Leeds, Manchester, Sheffield Closing Date 09/03/2026 About the Role In Public Services Advisory, we support large, high‑profile public sector clients, infrastructure projects and public policy programmes, helping them deliver economic and social benefits. The role is part of our Public Sector Consulting pool, covering local government, central government, health and other arms‑length bodies. Responsibilities
Help us to make a difference to our public sector clients supporting them to deliver modern public services that are sustainable, people‑centred, data‑driven and digitally enabled. Be part of an exciting client engagement team supporting across our sectors and capabilities, developing analytical skills, insights and consulting expertise with each engagement. Develop sector and technical knowledge and apply this in the context of real and complex client scenarios, bringing a unique perspective that is valued. Be pivotal in the delivery of engagements with unparalleled insight into our clients’ challenges, regularly liaising with senior stakeholders within our clients. Actively listen to others and ask searching questions that challenge thinking beyond immediate concerns and present innovative solutions. Be asked to identify, suggest and drive practice development initiatives – be that internal business development, external marketing or continued improvement of our consulting toolkit – to ensure you are a key part of our growing practise. Take personal responsibility and pride towards high quality of assigned deliverables, whilst demonstrating excellent time management and communication skills. Contribute to positive morale, enthusiasm and entrepreneurial culture within the team. Demonstrate understanding of services and capability of Public Sector Consulting and Wider Consulting as well as Grant Thornton to effectively support clients outside your subject area. Build a strong network of contacts, both within the firm, with partners and across the public sector.
Qualifications
A professional qualification (ACA, ICAS, CA, ACCA or CIPFA). Other professional qualifications will be considered if appropriate. Extensive experience of using Microsoft Office applications, in particular PowerPoint and Excel. Excellent communication and presentation skills, including in a variety of different media.

Ability to use a framework and methodology‑driven approach to identify root cause, propose an appropriate approach and deliver a solution. Understanding of and interest in working in the public sector. Ability to carry out robust analysis and interpret the outcomes. Ability to follow a framework and methodology set out by the team to identify issues and potential responses and help deliver a solution. Ability to provide commercial and strategic thinking to propose new solutions to clients. Ability to work with and influence senior stakeholders and an ability to show true empathy. Flexible and adaptable to changing priorities.
