Job Description

Opportunity for an Assistant Design Manager or Senior Design Coordinator to join a leading Tier 1 interiors contractor on a high-profile central London refurbishment project. This is a 5-month freelance role (with potential to extend or transition into a permanent position) starting in early May.\n\nYou will be supporting the Senior Design Manager on a complex refurbishment of a heritage building, being transformed into a unique mixed-use scheme. The project involves a combination of high-quality office space alongside a cultural element, requiring careful coordination, stakeholder management, and a strong design focus throughout.\n\nThis is a site-based role in the Central London area, offering exposure to a technically challenging and design-led scheme.\n\nKey Responsibilities:\n\n * Supporting the management of the design process through RIBA Stages 3 & 4\n\n * Working closely with the Senior Design Manager to drive design coordination on site\n\n * Attending and contributing to client meetings, managing expectations on a challenging scheme\n\n * Reviewing and amending drawings in line with project requirements\n\n * Coordinating with architects, consultants, and subcontractors\n\n * Ensuring design information is aligned with programme, cost, and buildability\n\n * Assisting in the management of RFIs, design changes, and technical queries\n\nQualifications & Experience:\n\n * Experience in a Design Manager, Assistant Design Manager, or Design Coordinator role\n\n * Strong understanding of design processes, particularly across Stage 3 & 4\n\n * Background working on refurbishment or fit-out projects (heritage experience beneficial)\n\n * Confident in client-facing situations and able to manage stakeholder relationships\n\n * Comfortable working in a site-based environment and adapting to project demands\n\n * Ability to review and amend technical drawings\n\nThis role would suit someone who enjoys being heavily involved in the design process, rather than purely delivery-focused, and is looking to work on a complex, design-led refurbishment in central London.\n\nIf you are well suited to this role, please apply through the link and we will contact you for a confidential discussion
