Description Job title : Advanced ApprenticeMachining Location: Barrow-in-Furness (Cumbria) Salary: Starting from 14,527 23,493 per annum dependent on age, with annual progression through the scheme duration. What youll be doing: Using a variety of machines to manufacture components within a Submarine build, ranging from manually operated machines such as lathes and milling machines, to Tornado (CNC lathe) and the Storm (CNC mill) You would learn skills such as turning, threading, milling, tapping and boring Measuring and checking the components produced, adjusting the machinery and software to ensure the components meet the necessary specifications Paying close attention to tolerances, which range from 0.5mm to as little as 0.02mm by utilising a range of measuring devices such as micrometres, vernier callipers, slip gauges and screw thread gauges Benefits: As well as a competitive pension scheme, BAE Systems also offers employee share plans, an extensive range of flexible discounted health, wellbeing & lifestyle benefits, including a green car scheme, private health plans and shopping discounts you may also be eligible for an annual incentive. The Submarines Team: Our Submarines business has been safely delivering world class submarines to the UK Royal Navy for more than a century. The Astute class will equip the Royal Navy with its largest and most capable generation of attack submarines. We are responsible for the design, build, test and commissioning of these state-of-the-art vessels. In total, seven boats will make up the fleet, each weighing a mighty 7,400 tonnes. Dreadnought is the successor to the Vanguard class of nuclear deterrent submarines. We will deliver four submarines to the Royal Navy, with the first submarine entering service in the early 2030s. Dreadnought is widely considered to be one of the worlds most complex engineering challenges. The Manufacturing Team : Manufacturing is the largest function in submarines at Barrow in Furness with a growing population of approximately 5000 people. It encompasses a variety of Sub-Disciplines including Operations, Production Planning and Controls, Test and Commissioning, Manufacturing Engineering and Site and Facilities; with a unified commitment to build and support the submarine programme throughout its entire life cycle from cut steel through to sea trials.
