Role Purpose Are you an excellent leader and people manager with a sound understanding of the evolving information rights policy landscape across government and the legislative context? Are you seeking a new challenge within the justice system? We are looking for a motivated and collaborative individual to join the Security and Information Directorate (SID) within the Ministry of Justice (MoJ). As Head of Information Access in the Information Services Division (ISD), you will support the MoJ in fulfilling transparency obligations while balancing the need to protect sensitive information. You will contribute to the effective management and decision-making of the Division, working in a fast-paced environment with competing demands and challenging objectives. This role requires outstanding knowledge of information access and strong interpersonal skills. The successful candidate must be able to strategically lead teams with various demands and deadlines, build relationships quickly with key partners, and foster a positive team culture and shared purpose. Responsibilities include but are not limited to: Defining and delivering a strategic vision for team performance in the short and long term. Reviewing and improving the team and operating model to meet current and future case demands, leveraging digital and technological tools to support a digital-first agenda. Acting as an active member of the Information Service Division’s SMT, reporting to the Deputy Director. Advising the Permanent Secretary and MoJ’s Executive Committee on strategic risks related to information requests and translating decisions into policies and delivery plans. Ensuring high standards in legislative and internal targets, with ongoing improvements and cost savings. Developing influential relationships within government, including ministers, advisers, legal, policy, technology, analytical, and operational colleagues, and building a strong internal network. Maintaining effective relationships with external stakeholders, including third-sector organizations and professional bodies. Representing the MoJ at senior cross-Government meetings. Leading and managing services for Subject Access Requests (SAR), Environmental Information Regulations (EIR), and Freedom of Information (FOI), balancing statutory obligations with the protection of sensitive information. Managing the department’s statutory performance obligations, overseeing the information access pipeline, and supporting teams as needed. Building relationships within the MoJ and its agencies, providing high-quality advice on complex information requests and sensitive information handling. Ensuring accurate recording, quality assurance, and analysis of information access management data, including reporting for the Cabinet Office.
