Technical Engineer - Outside IR35 Contract - ASAP start - MUST HAVE SC CLEARANCE - Hybrid working We are seeking an experienced Technical Engineer with strong expertise in legacy infrastructure environments and UVM (Universal Verification Methodology) to support hardware verification platforms and system-level infrastructure. You will maintain and support on-premises infrastructure crucial to ASIC/FPGA development workflows, including simulation farms, Legacy EDA tools, and physical lab environments. This role does not require any cloud experience , focusing instead on traditional infrastructure, scripting, and engineering toolchains. You will be part of a dedicated technical operations team, working closely with service desk, application support, and business users to ensure reliable and secure system performance. Key Responsibilities Provide 2nd/3rd line technical support across Legacy and on-premises infrastructure. Maintain, upgrade, and troubleshoot physical servers , rack-mounted systems , and end-user devices . Manage and monitor Windows Server environments (2008, 2012, 2016), Active Directory , Group Policy , and DNS/DHCP . Administer Legacy email Servers (eg, Exchange 2010/2013) and on-premises collaboration tools. Support network infrastructure , including routers , switches , firewalls , and structured cabling. Handle storage systems (eg, SAN/NAS) and backup solutions (eg, Symantec, Veeam, or Tape-based systems). Maintain system documentation, asset inventories, and configuration records. Participate in scheduled out-of-hours maintenance and support rotas as needed. Ensure compliance with internal IT policies and external regulatory requirements (eg, ISO, PCI, etc.). Work with 3rd party vendors on hardware repairs, software licensing, and service contracts. Essential Skills & Experience 5 years of hands-on experience supporting Legacy IT infrastructure environments. Strong knowledge of Windows Server administration and on-prem application hosting. Experience with Active Directory , file/print servers , terminal services , and legacy authentication methods . Proficiency in network troubleshooting , including TCP/IP, subnets, VPNs, and physical layer components. Experience with backup technologies , disaster recovery planning, and storage systems. Familiarity with Legacy security practices and patch management tools. Comfortable working with command-line tools , Scripting (eg, PowerShell, batch), and system logs for troubleshooting. Proven experience in handling incidents, problem resolution, and change control processes. Desirable (but not essential) Experience with older OS systems (eg, Windows XP, Server 2003) still in operation in some environments. Exposure to proprietary/industry-specific Legacy applications. Understanding of virtualization platforms (eg, VMware vSphere, Hyper-V) used for on-premise VMs. Familiarity with ITIL framework or similar service management methodologies. Candidate Profile Strong attention to detail and a methodical approach to troubleshooting. Comfortable working independently as well as part of a close-knit team. Resilient and able to operate under pressure or in time-critical environments. A genuine interest in maintaining and optimising traditional IT systems. Excellent verbal and written communication skills for documentation and stakeholder interaction. Qualifications Relevant technical certifications (e.g., CompTIA, Microsoft MCSA/MCSE, Cisco CCNA) are highly desirable. Vocational or academic qualification in Information Technology or related field. Must have an active Security Clearance.
