Job Title: Teaching Assistant Location: Brent Contract Type: Permanent, Full-Time Hours: 8.30am to 4.00pm Salary: £100 - £130 per day
Job Overview An established Alternative Provision in West London is seeking a dedicated Teaching Assistant / Learning Support Assistant to support students aged 11-16 with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs and behavioural challenges. This role is ideal for an experienced TA or LSA with a strong background in SEN, PRU, or Alternative Provision settings.
The successful candidate will provide 1:1 and small-group support, helping students access the curriculum, regulate behaviour, and achieve positive educational outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
Provide 1:1 support and small-group interventions for students with SEN and SEMH needs. Support students with challenging behaviour using consistent behaviour management and de-escalation strategies. Assist teachers in delivering lessons across core subjects including English, PSHE, and Humanities. Promote student engagement, emotional regulation, and positive learning behaviours. Build professional, trusting relationships with students to support academic and personal development. Work collaboratively with teaching staff, SEN staff, and support teams. Contribute to monitoring progress, behaviour reports, and intervention planning. Maintain safeguarding standards and support a safe, calm, and inclusive learning environment.Essential Criteria
Previous experience as a Teaching Assistant, Learning Support Assistant, or Support Worker. Experience working in a secondary SEN school, PRU, or Alternative Provision. Proven experience supporting students with SEMH needs and challenging behaviour. Knowledge of behaviour management strategies and de-escalation techniques. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Calm, resilient, and patient approach to supporting vulnerable young people. Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.Desirable Criteria
Experience delivering targeted interventions or catch-up support. Familiarity with trauma-informed or restorative practice approaches.
