Overview

Support Worker (SEND) (6599) – Barnardo's DSI service. The service has been providing support to children and young people with a disability and their families across the region for several years and is registered with the Care Quality Commission.

Objectives of the Service

We are looking to appoint a bank of workers to provide support to young people with a disability and/or learning difficulty aged 0-25 years and their families across the East Riding. Workers will be highly motivated and have a passion for engaging, supporting and empowering young people and their families. They should have the skills, confidence and passion to work within one or all of the following areas:

  • Short Break Provision – 1:1 or 2:1 support within the community or home, mainly on weekends/evenings/during school holidays.
  • B Enabled Outreach Support – 1:1 or 2:1 support with young people not currently accessing full-time education (weekdays term time only).
  • SEND Youth Groups – in youth groups, 1 staff member to 3 young people (numbers capped at 9 per session) – Saturdays and school holidays.

Pay, Hours and Flexible Working

The rate of pay is a312.60 per hour (plus rolled up annual leave). Mileage is paid at 45p per mile and 50p per mile when transporting a young person or colleague. There are a variety of hours available including evenings, weekends, daytime in school holidays and daytime term time only. A flexible approach to working is essential. Sessions available range from 6 hours per week up to 30 hours per week.

You will require

  • Excellent writing, recording and IT skills; be organised, methodical and accurate in daily tasks.
  • Ability to engage with children, young people and families from different backgrounds and with professionals involved in their care.
  • Awareness of safeguarding vulnerable children and adults.
  • Meet medical, physical, emotional and personal needs of the young people. This may include managing behaviour and personal care such as feeding/toileting, showering, etc., as detailed in the care plan.

You will receive

  • Full induction to the role with a comprehensive training package including first aid, safeguarding, medicines care, personal & intimate care, behaviour intervention training and any other child-specific requirements.
  • Quarterly supervision and team trainings.
  • Mileage paid at 45p per mile and 50p when transporting a young person or colleague.
  • Rolled up annual leave pay.
  • Overnight work paid at time and a half (12am-7am).
  • Robust lone and safe working protocol with on-call support.

We have a particular need for staff in the following areas: Beverley, Bridlington, Brough, Cottingham, Driffield, Goole, Hornsea, Market Weighton, Pocklington, South Cave, Willerby, Withernsea.
