Do you want to help shape how Wales measures the ecological success of peatland restoration? Natural Resources Wales is looking for a Specialist Advisor for Peatland Biodiversity Metric & Reporting to join the National Peatland Action Programme (NPAP).
This is a unique opportunity to lead the development of biodiversity metrics that capture the real ecological outcomes of restoration. You'll be the professional lead for this work area, ensuring that data and evidence are translated into clear, robust measures of progress that inform reporting, policy, and future action.
In this role, you will: Lead the creation, development, and implementation of biodiversity metrics that reflect peatland ecosystem condition and species recovery. Provide expert advice to NPAP colleagues and partners, ensuring monitoring methodologies are statistically robust and fit for metric-based analysis. Analyse data from NPAP's monitoring and wider evidence programmes to assess recovery trends. Generate reports based on ecological metrics to meet NPAP and NRW's reporting obligations. Work with internal and external partners to develop consistent approaches to biodiversity reporting, drawing on the best available evidence and new techniques. Act as the lead expert for peatland biodiversity metrics within NRW, providing advanced training and guidance to colleagues.
Peatlands are vital for biodiversity, carbon storage, and climate resilience. By joining us, you'll play a central role in ensuring that restoration outcomes are measured and communicated effectively, helping Wales deliver on its environmental commitments.
We're looking for someone with significant experience in recording and analysing biodiversity data, strong IT and statistical skills, and the ability to build partnerships across organisations. As an organisation we support flexible working. You will be contracted to an NRW office within the place base / location above and a suitable hybrid working pattern will be agreed on appointment. Any regular face to face meetings or training will be planned in advance.

About us
The Peatland Data Support Team are data scientists that draw on spatial and statistical analytical tools to develop products to inform, implement and report on NRW's National Peatlands Action Programme. The National Peatland Action Programme is funded by the Welsh Government and operates as a Strategic Project within Natural Resources Wales to coordinate peatland restoration action in Wales.
This role is one of three Specialist Advisors who support the team leader and mentor junior staff to deliver workflows and data products that inform planning of peatland restoration activities across Wales and report on the progress and outcomes of the National Peatland Action Programme. TPBN1_UKTJ
